275, Fish Count Sept 29, 2001

Well today was the last of my scheduled charters on the Stardust for this year. We were met with tough ocean conditions, large swell and wind. We decided to have a calm day and went to the gap between Anacapa and Santa Cruz to fish rockfish. We did not have the live squid to look for Seabass, but it looks like they did not bite today as I have looked at the counts.

Fishing started out very tough. Jason looked at several spots. He located a few nice areas in the afternoon. We caught alot of nice sized stuff and got into a little area of really nice sized sculpin. The short Lings were wide open at times. Every live bait got one. They were all released in good shape. Randy caught the only legal Ling. We all had a good time.

For those of you who do not know Jason's second Billy, you are missing something. Billy is a very funny man and he knows how to keep customers happy. His best line was " I recommend that you use the strips of squid for the rockfish, unless your targeted species of choice is the short lingcod. If that is what you are after I recomend continuing to use the live bait" I laughed every time I thought about that announcement.

All in all a nice day of fishing. 18 anglers 1 Ling, 5 Whitefish, 115 Rockfish, 27 Sculpin and 4 Sheephead.
