Well I just moved home (this is Rob not Summer) so the computer is out of commision but here goes...
Nothing like getting to go fishing on the weekdays! I had a chance to go on the 10-3 run on the Stardust this past Friday. The bite the day before had been incredible, something like 170 bass and 160 cuda. We were pumped. With 43 guys gals and kids on the boat it was looking a little dicey for a good bite but things worked out well. We started at the one mile. Tons of bait in the water and fish breaking as soon as we dropped the hook. The fish were there but the bite was picky. I think all the bait had them stuffed. I caught a couple cuda on the Tady A1 and a couple calico on the 1/8oz flyline. The bass weren't running fast with it, just picking it up and swimming off slowly. I watched guys around me farm fish after fish while I was throwing the iron until I couldn't take it and caught 2 bass on 2 casts before we pulled up and headed south to the horseshoe. This was not before a guy up in the bow, who said he had never been ocean fishing before, boated a halibut that was in the 25-30lb class. Nice fish!
The horseshoe bit pretty good, better than the 1 mile. I caught 5 more cudes, 2 on bait and 3 on the iron and 5 more calico plus a couple shortys. The cuda were rolling on the iron almost every cast for a while but the were so full of bait they just wouldn't eat it.
Next stop was the horseshoe kelp. Few more cudas and bass were brought in along with 2 blacks which were released, one baby around 8lbs and one juvenille around 50lbs. That was cool. Can't wait to go again.
