Well, carrot top reminded me that it must be time for the goals of the new year post.

I have one goal this year in particular, which is to catch a 10lb northern strain out of Santa Margarita. Other than that, no big goals, as living on the central coast does not present tremendous opportunities.

Let's hear your goals for '08.

Bring myself out of poverty and out of a poor white trash lifestyle. Transfer to a four year university to finish the last two years of my college degree.

Work as much O.T as I can and stash that money. Catch as many swimbait fish out of Casitas as possible. 2 4 mile hikes with 100lbs of gear a week.
Peace Rich

Same as last year, 10 over 10 and a 15 plus.

I roared out of the gates this year with a great start towards my goals, and as has happened the last 3 years, had too much personal crap go down and couldnt focus due to tooo many distractions. However, I did have a great year anyway.

In 2008 Ive promised myself to make fishing my top priority. I havent explained this to my girlfriend yet. Wish me luck :(

My goal is just to find time to fish. Work is going to be hectic for me next year with travel :(

When I do hit the water again I plan on fishing new lakes. I also want another teen sized fish this year.

I enjoy this annual post.

I want to take a moment to reflect on 2007. 2007 will NOT go down in my life as my favorite, most prosperous year. Its been up and down and all around. My fishing in 2007 was very much up and down and all around. I started in Jan 2007, on fish. Amazing January bite, thought I was off to a good year. The next 10 months proved to me how mortal I am, and how much I need to improve. Talk about distracted and missed opportunity. I missed 2 giants in spring of 2007 by <6" total. So close to biting, but didn't. I finished this year pretty strong. My all time best week getaway was in October. I spent a week camped on a lake I'm determined to crack. Got some fish, but most importantly learned a ton about the lake. November was lights out. Had two of the best and most rewarding days ever over Thanksgiving with my folks. December was back to reality. Should have gone there but went here type stuff. Got 2 double digit fish in November that were my only two DDs all year.

2008 Goals:

--Two over 10 on the same day (same goal I had in 2007)
--Find a swimbait bite on a new lake
--Top 30 Finish in the BP Eastern Series on Clarks Hill
--New Boat (used, double axel trailer, little bigger)
--New House/living situation (can't store my boat at my current place)

2008 I'm hoping will help me make a transition into something I've been after for 15+ years. I'm wanting to get myself in position to fish a year or two full time, doing the big tournament series and focusing on trophy fish at the right times.

Good luck to y'all in 2008.

Matt

I'm still trying for a fish over 10 so that's definitely my goal for 2008. Missed it by 6 oz this year. Actually I'm going big and going for 2 over 10 this year.

These things usually backfire for me, since (at least in northern california) fishing opportunities vary so much year by year. This year, mostly due to the lack of rain, the fishing was much easier. I'm hoping for a ton of rain this winter to send the lakes back to a muddy swamp, even if it does make fishing bad. Whatever happens, the next few months will dictate how difficult the fishing will be for the following year.

That being said, an 18lber would be nice, five 18lbers would be better :)
