Tournament Day 2 (Sunday)

This day's story will be a bit shorter :) We trolling motored our way out of the 5's at blast off and set out to milk the world of release fish in front of Konocti Vista.

We've both spent a lot of hours in our kickboats over the years so we felt at home fishing a small area for the day. Nico had caught nice buzzbait fish close to the ramp in practice so we felt ok about that too.

Reaction wasn't working in the morning. The fish may have felt nervous after 64 other boats went blasting past them :) After what seemed like forever Nico caught a barley keeper on the S-Waver, then had a few followers.

Feeling no mojo, I once again resorted to drop shot, even though it was a weedy mess in this area. I was a bit surprised when my first fish was a 4lber :) This felt like a real nice treat all things considered.

Going slowly down the bank I started to get a lot of bites. It was a very specific bite, making short pitches in the direction the weeds were laying and trying to get a clean cast without fouling in weeds instantly. You pulled grass off your bait almost every cast, but the fish were there. I don't know how many I caught exactly but the video will tell more of the story. Landed one nice 5lber and several 3lbers.

The bummer was that these fish were super tentative on the bait and I missed about a half dozen, including one nicer 4-5lber that I saw roll as it spit the hook.

Nico got a good cull fish at the tail end of the bite, a 3 and a half pounder on a baby brush hog, and then it just quit. Flat quit to nothing. The last three or so hours of the day we never had a single bite. The fish just decided that was it, they hated life and didn't want to bite.

We weighed in 19lbs. Not bad for the trolling motor only day. I don't think we got a check. 47 won it. A lot of good bags today were weighed. We left early so I could get home and see the kids before bedtime. It was a big weekend and a good adventure. Anyone have a compressor they want to sell for a 2006 Merc Optimax ProXS 225hp - let me know....

We have a TON of video to edit and post for the show. May take a few days.
