#18137, "April 17, 2011 - Berryessa - AC Teams"

Nico and I fished the AC Team at Berryessa Sunday. No particular reason other than it's spring time and fishing is good most places right now.

We each practiced one day. It was the first time for us on Berryessa in 5 years. I had forgotten how huge the lake was! Man, you get out there on the main body and look up the lake and it's like you're at Clear lake. The vis was good, 10 to 15 feet. Temp was 60 to 66.

I enjoyed driving around the lake, seeing the scenery and exploring some new places to fish. My practice wasn't very good. Found a few small fish on beds and didn't see anything of size. The regular fishing for me was crappy.

Nico found a lot more fish, all largemouth. Some on beds but most cruising around. So we felt encouraged for the event. He saw a few nicer bass to 11lbs cruising.

12 teams on Sunday. We went to our spot and found no one there. 3rd cast Nico caught a 3lber on a swimbait. That was an unexpected bonus. He had 2 more bites that didn't connect.

The sun came out so we did some sight fishing and put a few in the boat. These fish were hard to hook and we lost several. I farmed a 3+ for no apparent reason. Don't know what was going on with that. Usually our execution is good. Mid morning Nico hooked a 5 on a swimbait and it jumped off. Grr.

We culled our way in to 13lbs or so. Found a few big ones near beds but not at all catchable. At the end of the day we went to look for one 3lber that Nico had seen the day before and I caught it. Bonus.

Well we never found the big one so we weighed 15.2lbs and came in 5th place. 20lbs won and two teams had big fish, 8 and 10lbers. 16lbs got paid.

I had a chance to use my push pole yesterday and it got me to thinking. They should make a power pole that also pushes you. If you had two powerpoles and they operated in a way that raised and lowered the arm so that it pushed you forward, that would be ... awesome.

I'd call it the Power Pusher and it would have variable speed control. The slow speed would be called 'creep' and the high speed would be called 'spook um!' There'd be a halt button which would jam on the brakes for you when the bass is sighted.

If someone reads this and makes said device, can I have one for free please? That's all I ask. Using a push pole is super annoying.
