How does an a-rig take the skill out of fishing? It is not that realistic, has bunch of hardware etc, I think reeling hudds is a lot easier and flipping jigs is easier too.

A-rigs are definitely not a better bait than a Huddleston Deluxe, should we ban hudds? They give everyone a shot at giant fish, a much more detrimental lure to big fish populations mainly because someone lands their pb on a hudd and drags it all around the lake, leaves it in the livewell too long, mounts it, whatever. I have seen photos of big bass on the a-rig but nothing like the hudd.

Back to the skill discussion I am sure you and most people have tried live lining live bait of some sort, it is tough to fish, bluegills are even tougher to fish!

When I throw swimbaits I am in control and run it through the best water available multiple casts on each spot and then at different angles on the same spot. When flipping jigs I am putting that jig in the best possible places every time.

With live bait, especially bluegill, they run around, out of the prime spots, don't stay in the good spots long, die, etc.

If you weight the fish with sinkers or something then it looks dumb. Possibly Manabu figured out a better way to fish them, but I seriously doubt it. Drop shot rigs with a gill works but not as well as a hudd.

Someone will bring up the whole chumming of bluegill attack, saying that is cheap or not fair. Not only is it legal but read between the lines, THAT WORLD RECORD FISH WOULD NOT BITE THE REAL DEAL, A BLUEGILL, WITHOUT BEING CONDITIONED TO EAT IT, THROUGH CHUMMING.How hard is that to get bit when you have what a bass would naturally eat right in front of the fish and it will not eat. That does not seem like a zero skill deal to me!

Live bait is not an easy way to catch big bass, I also think it is the worst way to catch big fish, except for a few special cases. Think about the time you spend to anchor, double anchor, rig bait, change bait, get the bait, keep it alive, keep it fresh, wait for it to swim in a good spot, pull up the anchors move to your other spot, re-rig, wait again, you get the point.

That is a lot of time to spend when spring is relatively a short window to catch the big ones. It is a waste and your better off swimbaiting and jig fishing.

I think the two toughest ways to catch bass is livebait and sightfishing for bass on beds. They take the most time( how long on average do you bedfisherman spend looking for beds then trying to get that fish to bite?) of any other method, are the least inefficient.

Sight fishing for bedding bass and live lining are truly art forms. Swimbaits and jigs are not only easier but get a ton of big fish.

DISCLAIMER:
I do not fish with livebait, the few times I did I never caught anything. I do not sight fish for nesters. The few times I sight fished for bedding bass I did not catch anything, even the few fish that were big that I saw.
I strictly fish jigs and swimbaits.
