I think 14lb is a little light for most situations. It might be ok for 7" baits in clear water, but I generally go heavier. I use 20lb for 7" baits and 25lb for 9" and bigger. I also use a flourocarbon leader about 6ft long. For the line, I think it's hard to beat Berkley big game. It's strong, cheap and you can get it practically anywhere.
