Had my first big boat experience last week end with BBT tourney which was sponsored by Calsteam / ferguson. These are plumbing supply houses.
We launched out of Russos Marina with 48 boats.
First we headed across Franks towards hollands.
Little different than what I'm used to since I normally can't go too far in a kickboat. Ha
My partner/friend and I first and fritst thing we nailed a 2.5 on a frog and kept fishin. I had to tough time trying to keep up with the speed. As I pitched to some tulies he hit the trolling motor. Dam it. Haha. Quickly got accustomed to it and had to think ahead.
Was a tough day in all. Got a couple bites in the morning but nothing kept. We fished moving from spot to spot but was pretty sad.
We kept talkin thinking we had no chance. We released a few short fish throughout the day.
We fished a frog, whopper plopper, jigs, chatterbait, senkos, blades, buzz baits, and a few others.
I kept telling Joe( my friend/boater ). We still have a chance at BF
Bite was really slow and knew we didn't have a chance at a limit since we only had one in the boat but ...
Now we only have about 30-45 min left in the tourney and we pull up on he concrete wall at the opening to Franks and start pitching around the tulies. I flipped a beaver over the tulies and I noticed my line slipped off the Tullie faster than normal. Thought that was a little strange so I set the hook. All hell broke loose. We saw the fish break water them the scramble for the net. All I had in my head was. "Don't shake it"! Don't come off"!
We got it in the boat. A 6.21lber.
High 5's were shared. Ha. Weigh in was in 20 min and thought.." hell ,we gave it our best. The whole time I was thinking "we still have a shot at BF"!
Thought it was a bit of a shot being it was the Delta and thought that someone's gotta have an 8-10lber.
We missed good part of the weigh in cause we were the last heat in.
They had a killer BBQwith pulled pork ribs and all the fixings.
When it came time they called bf awards.
First was a fish about 4lbs
Then they said "And the bigeat fish of the tournament at 6.21
Right then me and Joe gave hi 5's.
I had won BF of the tourney.
Super excited. We also place in 9th place out of 48 boats with almost 9lbs.
It was fun. Wound up with some cash and Big Bass Showdown plaque
It's of a bass jumping out of a toilet bowl ( it was after all sponsored by a plumbing supplier ). 😂
