#2952, "Frog rod?"

I'm new to froggin' (got to love that name :)). I want to start looking at a rod just to fish the frog. Note I'm talking about the hard frogs, not the swimming frogs. Would the Daiwa Heartland Heavy Swimbait rod do as an inexpensive frog rod? I was thinking about the softer tip, thought it would be good for casting frogs. Or is this rod just too soft?

I have been using the Lamiglas Tournament Frog Rod. Seems to be working great throwing Soft or hard Frogs.

I don't know what everyone else uses but I throw the Redington RFX 7911. I LOVE froggin' with it because it has tons of power but enough flex to really hold onto the fish on the headshake.
BassinDon got to use one of mine last weekend and stuck some fish with it so maybe he could give you some unbiased insight, not really sure if he liked them or not.
Check them out at www.redington.com

I've also been using the Lami Tourney Frog rod and had 3"s added to the butt. Really is a sweet rod for froggin!

I'm also into the lamiglass for froggin, however I like the 806. I feel the 8 footer gives me a lot of leverage on a big fish. It also has a pretty short handle allowing you to walk the ribbit real easy. It also doubles as a great punching rod.

Thanks guys. Looks I'll save up for the Lamiglas. Seems to be a pretty good rod for froggin'. Plus, seems like it could serve double-duty for me, I do a lot of punchin' here. Just wish my fists weren't so sore after :+ Thanks again.

Yeah. I'm partnered up with Scott. It was looking bad about there about 2 weeks ago... I didn't have a partner. But I ended up seeing Scott on the water that evening and he didn't have one yet either. So I ended up with him. But that's cool... if anything, it gave me more of a reason to buy more stuff! :)

That's cool. Scott is a good stick there at the fin. I was going to fish all of the team events with Big Rob but this time I guess I wasn't good enough so he partnered up with the famous Butch Brown.
I called Scott today to see if I could fish with my son instead and he said no so I might still show up to fun fish and see if I can get some big fish. The better sacks are going to come fishing deep.
Don't spend all day throwing the frog.

DockBoy,
I just heard what happened at the tournament on Sat.
That's a bunch of B.S.
If there's someone fishing on a dock and they tell you it's alright to come in there and fish there is no rule violation. I know we have been fishing this way ever since Scott started these tournaments and there was never a problem before. I think everyone is taking those tournaments too seriously. I heard there were people passing and no-one was honoring the 50 yard encroachment.
The encroachment rule should be done away with. The fin is just too small. So anyway what did you end up weighing?

Thanks fo' the reply Shane. Yeah, I agree the Fin is just to small for the encroachment rule. But that was the only offical club rule we could call Rob on. Not to say we had it for him, but it was just wrong man. His wife was sitting there saving the hole for him. I mean, there's nearly 50 other docks on the lake and she just happens to fish the one he plans?! Oh well, what's done is done. He got his money back, didn't really lose anything. We ended up about 2 pounds out of the money in 4th. What sucks is I lost a fish in the last 3o mins under a tule mat x( It felt better than the rest of the fish we had too.....But all in all I was just suckin'. Overall I managed just 1 small fish and it was a nonkeeper by like an inch. Scott only caught 3 and we had 4 or 5 schools of fish located earlier!

Hey just saw this thread. I love my Shimano Crucial X711H Flipping Stick. It hucks a frog really far and sticks them real well even on a long-distance hookset. Walks them well even being 8 foot. Shimano also has a 7-2 frog rod if you're into that length. Both are limited lifetime warrantied.
