Say that 5 times fast... lol. Anyway, TW has this very hard to get rod in stock right now. I bought the first one they got in because I've been so unhappy with my other drop shot spinning rods. It's quite a piece of equipment, not a fairy wand, just an exquisitely made spinning rod with awesome sensitivity for drop shotting.

Tackletour.com has an extensive review on the rod if you want more info:

Thanks, that would be cool! I have a couple of Megabass rods that I've picked up secondhand. I'm curious what the warranty from Tacklewarehouse would be for new rods. Do you know if they plan on getting any other models?

My fairy wand is my 6' Iovino split shot rod :) I like that little rod but it has no backbone at all so when you hook a bigger fish on it you just have to hang on. Want to watch it in action, click the link and click your preferred video format.

Guys PLEASE help me. I have no problem whatsoever paying for quality. Buy it once and you're done. What's the deal with Megabass? Why they so bloody expensive?? Jerkbaits going for a fifty and hundred bucks? "I'm no fairy" wands at $500 !? Do they come WITH a Geisha Girl ? or do they have a coupon? Hey Rob, your girl know you spent $500. oops! I mean $50.... on that "anotherrrrr fishing pole??" LOL ! Is the lure and rod quality that 'far and away' the best there is? Thanks! Summer knows about all my little purchases :) and I do buy a lot of tackle. I bought that rod after I won some money in a tournament in November, and I don't usually spend that kind of money on rods. But I was was getting frustrated because I've bought 3 spinning rods in the past few years for drop shotting and I didn't really like any of them once I used them.

So I thought about it and I figured whatever Aaron Martens uses for drop shotting is probably the sickest drop shot rod in existence so when I saw him mention that he used this rod in an article I figured why the heck not and I bought it.

I just re-read the review on tackle tour, which I thought was a very good review, but I had one comment. They said that a con for the rod was the lack of a hook keeper, but I believe the slots in the metal ring right above the foregrip are designed for that purpose, so really it has 6 or 8 hook keepers. When I'm storing my drop shot rig, I just unclip the weight from the line, slide it up to within an inch or two of the hook, re-clipi it and then hook the hook onto one of those metal slots on the rod. Pretty easy and requires no extra accessories. That way your weight doesn't swing around.

Any chance of getting a pic of that holder? I've had an idea for a weight holder for a while but am wondering if this might be better.

Let me try to answer a few of the questions above in one post here.

Q: Have you used the rod yet?
A: Yes, I've had it for a few months. Caught a half dozen or so fish on it. Sometimes it's hard to be objective about something that you paid a lot of money for because you really want to like it, but I really am in love with it so far. Great sensitivity, great feel, and nice action when fighting the bass (poor action while fighting fish was my main problem with my other spinning rods).

Q: What is the warranty?
A: Not sure yet. Guys at TW are looking in to it.

Q: Will TW carry more Megabass rods?
A: Getting Megabass rods is apparently very difficult as they are not sold through Megabass USA at this time. So the answer for now is no. They will probably not get any more of this model even once they are sold out. TW is looking to expand their lineup of Megabass hardbaits because those are more readily available.

Q: Can you post a pic of the hook keeper?
A: Here's a pic

Have you fished the Loomis DSR820S? If so, how would you rate it compared to the Megabass? I have the Loomis and I like it but really want a dropshot rod with more backbone. I've caught bass up to 6lbs and a 13lb carp on my Loomis rod but my arm is killing me after.

I think you're getting outside my area of expertise here :) My previous drop shot type rods have all been cheap $30-$120 rods and I haven't pulled on much else. Hopefully this spring I'll get to fight a few big fish on this one and we'll see how it goes. I think it's going to be just about right :)

did you try the shimano clarus? i had one of the lighter spinning versions and it seemed to handle bass up to 6lbs pretty good. also caught a bunch of carp to 10lbs while flylining corn but thats a different story.

Rob I have been using Sunline BMS pro for the spining stuff on lighter line. Really good line and SUPER strong. Ask Cam he watched pull a fish at DV through about 5 bushes and got it to the boat with no frays! Nice and limp line with no twisting (using a Stella 1000FA) and the 1/8 ounce head spins.

As far as the rods go from what the Japanese guys at work have told me is they are nice rods but expensive. I personally use a casting rod and a Calais 100A with 5# and have had no problems either. I just hate spinning reels!!

For those that are following this thread. I called TW and spoke to them about the warranty on this rod. They said that because these were bought directly from a distributor (Megabass USA) that the buyer would need to deal directly with them. I called Megabass USA and the warranty is 1 year. After that you are on your own, they do not do repair work here or in Japan for that matter. If a guide breaks you take it to your local rod repair shop, if the blank breaks you are down $500.00 dlls. Ouch.

I have always wanted one of these rods, but since they are not readily available i've only admired them on the web. I was quite surprised to hear that the warranty is only 1 year and not even offer rod repair.

I think i'll remain a G. Loomis and Kistler user.

JUANCHO

I was cruisin through the reviews when i found what Rob wrote, thought it was pretty funny when applied to this thread.

"It’s a very fair price for what you get and I have always felt like there is no reason to spend $300 on a rod anyway" -Rob

that's for a big bait rod review, 300 isn't bad, but for a drop shotter..... damn

lol :P

yeah ya got me there I guess. I never thought I'd spend that much on a rod either. Sometimes when you get a little cash after a tournament you start feeling spendy I guess :9

I've been thinking about this thread, and it makes me laugh because I've written a lot of swimbait rod reviews and there's been just moderate feedback on them. But I talk drop shot rods and pow, there's tons of replies. Maybe I should start a new site for dropshotting tackle or something lol.

Since I can't cuss here on the board, here's what I have to say:
!#@!@@#$#^$#!!! 1500 bucks on tackle! #@!$! I had problems after going to the Fred Hall Show and spendin' $100 on some tackle! Oh well.:(
The Megabass are really nice rods. But with a warranty like that, I'd rather buy a really high end GLX or St. Croix blank and build it myself. For $500, I could buy a GLX blank, put the nicest guides in the friggin' world on it and make my owm handle type with money left over for a decent reel! Oh well, hope the Megabass serves you well. They are probably the best rod company for makin' the finesse stuff, I'm pretty sure it'll do most of your DS stuff (excluding sight fishing of course and probably water past like 40 feet).

Bass + Fisherman= BAASS ADDICTT!!!
