#17936, "July 18, 2010 - Delta Pro-Teen"

Fished the pro-teen event today. Drew a great young man named Josh. We were boat 54. There were a lot of boats! Weather was real nice. Temps were 69 to 74 deg. I didn't find much clarity, mostly 3 foot or so. Saw Ryan Thoni in the morning, long time no see :) Considered poaching his water but opted to go freestyle.

Started out with some reaction fishing. I missed a small one on a buzzbait. We saw some bluegill up shallow and some cruising bass. A few nice ones too. Josh pitched at a cruising 3 pounder and a 2 pounder came from no where and ate it. Cool.

We left that spot and made a longish run. The sun was up and hot. There's a lot of cheezy mats at the delta this year. Not as much of the punching type mats. Tried frogging the cheeze for a good while for nothing. Finally I got woofed by a 4 pounder. Hooked it and got about 10 cranks and it pulled off for no reason. Darn.

After that the tide was high enough to punch so we punched. Josh had never caught a punch fish out of the thick stuff before. He got set up with my 8' dobyns and curado 200E with 50 braid. Didn't take more than 10 minutes before he caught a nice 2 and a half pounder :) Stoked.

We did that for the rest of the day. Josh was the hot stick and caught 2 more solid bass. I managed two tiny keepers. We caught a few other non keepers. It was a real fun day and I know Josh was proud to bring in 4 of our fish. He spanked me, no doubt at about it :) So we weighed in 10.76lbs.

20lbs won it, 14lbs for second. That 4 on the frog would have helped a lot but this tourney is about the experience and the learning and having a great day on the water. All of those goals were accomplished. I hope to make this an annual event! We need this for the future of bass fishing.

PS, while waiting for the trailer I caught a 2 pounder on a senko across from the launch ramp. Ha.

Nice! That is always a fun tournament. I had to miss taking a kid out this year, I had to work. x( maybe I'll be able to do it again next year if things settle down a little.
