This is "HALIBUT KING" I was just wondering if there were any good spots for halibut lately. I tried Goleta beach on 1/26/02 and got one 19 incher on a 3.5 inch clear blue fishtrap about 30 yards past the slough, by the towers. I tried santa barbra on 1/19/02 and got two sand bass on plastic and get this!! one 16 inch salmon on live chovy.
well if you have any info please let me know if you can. Thanks!!

Ruben, I haven't float tubed Goleta beach since I moved up to SF a few years ago. But when I lived down there, I would always fish for halibut on the OTHER side, the UCSB side, of the beach. Mr. Swimbait and I went a few times, and we would launch from the UCSB end of the parking lot, and cruise all the way up to about the steps, and a little bit past the steps. I seemed to get the most action (not including a topless UCSB chick I saw once) near the steps, about 30-50 yards out.

Other people I've talked to have gotten several legals on that side of the beach. Best of luck, and post your results :-)

ruben i think this time of year in sb isnt the greatest time to go for halibut, because of water temp, but if you try fishing go fish in deeper water outside of the breakwater.can wait until spring.i think will have a good halibut fishing season.
