#10853, "Goals for the new year"

2009 is just around the corner. It must be time for the goals for the new year post :)

Last year my goal was to get a 10lb northern strain bass out of Santa Margarita. She was about 5 feet from the side of my boat on May 14, 2008 but jumped, spit my bait, and got away. It was still cool to get the opportunity and spend a decent amount of time on the water in '08 despite being holed up in grad school on the central coast most of the year.

For 2009 my goal is to get one over 15 and win one team tournament.

My goal for 2008 was a teener, haven't met it yet and probably won't since I haven't been fishing. Guess it's going to roll over to '09...

Well boys and girls,

I blew my 1st opportunity at my goal for 2009 on saturday. Had a big black angry fish come up 20 feet from the boat and destroy my bait only to pop it out of her mouth, she then came right back for the 2nd round when I stuck her hard and couldn't move her at all. She sat 2 feet under the surface violently shaking her head and shook the bait free on the 4th or 5th head shake. That fish owned me, and I'm very ashamed of my defeat. Then I bust a bonehead move and lost a bag full of Triple Trouts while we were on plane...not the way to start off the new year!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I think my goal next year should be to catch fish on swimbaits other than the huddleston and ms slammer. I want to find a NorCal lake with a good 7" triple trout bite, and some bluegill hardbait action once the water warms a bit.

I want to fish Clear Lake at least once. Been way to long since I've fished there. And winning a tourament wouldn't hurt either (just in case my team partner is reading this).

Stick a 13+ on the Nate's Bait "El Grande"

Stick a 17+, on ANYTHING!

More time on the water. (I could fish 7 days a week and it would still not be enough)

I was blessed with an incredible year. I broke my PB twice in one day. It now sits at 17.2 I am not even sure how many over ten I caught but I was hammering them for a 3 week period. It was incredible. I litteraly caught more bass over 6 lbs then under 6lbs through out the whole year. I would guess my totaly bass average weight for 08 would be around 8lbs per fish. I am now completley spoiled. My goal is to get one over 20. This is realy my lifetime goal and my other 09 goal will be to catch at least one DD on film. I plan on getting a camera.

my goal for '09 would be to crack the top ten again in a National Guard tourney and make it to the Forrest Wood Cup on Lake Lanier in 2010! Maybe win a few team tourneys and AOY titles along the way. Who knows, maybe even get a DD swimbait fish if Im really lucky!

Now that I think about it, My main goal for '09 is to get paid too fish }(

My goals for this year definitely include catching a double digit bass and tops my list of goals to accomplish for 2009. My second goal is to get a boat. Ive been shore fishing for 22 years and know the number of fish you can catch when you aren't restricted to just a stretch of shore. My third is to make and sell high quality baits that catch high quality bass. I would also like to catch a large swimbait fish with a bait at least 8 inches.

Id rather be fishin!

Get out on the water with my dad more. He's 65 and still holds up better throwing big baits with me all day than 90% of my friends.

It would be nice to get a big one too.

Edit - Oliver, I told you where to find one. Spend your time there this year and fish the way I told you and you will get the teener you want. You won't get a ton of fish but you will eventually get a big one.

Happy New Year everyone and I hope you all reach your goals.

Mark my friend,

I'm trying, but don't worry I'm used to not catching anything. Heading to Casitas tomorrow to see what I've been missing for the last 10 months. I'll let you know how it goes.

im not real big on goals, especially this time of year. if your not already doing it, chances are a new year's resolution won't last very long. im just going to keep doing what i do best, bass fishing; and when i catch another big fish i will have my 35 mm camera ready to get a one of a kind photo.

p.s. jesus christ is the only one who can give you a lasting change.

Well same as last year, same as a bunch of other people. Double digit fish. Doesn't have to be a swimbait but that would be nice. And be a better swimbait fisherman. However you go about doing that.

For 2009 I just want to fish more like I used to a few years back.
Winning a turnament with my son would also be cool.

For 2009, I'll keep it pretty simple...

1. My first swimbait fish
2. Catch a 20+ lb. Striper.
3. 6 lb. line class record for Kokanee
