#11406, "What If?"

All talk of world record rules and robotic lures makes me wonder...

What if I was fishing at a private lake where only members who lived around the lake could fish? But what if I was a guest that day..

What if the private lake rules said you could only cast to within 15 feet of docks? What if I was casting 16 feet away...

What if the bass was a bed fish but I was casting from a place where I couldn't see the bass? What if I felt the fish bite and set the hook but it came in hooked outside the mouth...

What if I had set up an aqua view near the bed? What if had a friend tell me when to set the hook..

What if I was using a robotic lure? What if there was no DFG rule about robotic lures but they made one after the fact...

What if I used a remote control boat to bring my lure over the bass? What if I wasn't operating that boat...

What if someone just caught it cleanly, on video, from cast to finish. Has 'wolf' been cried too many times now?

I happen to think there's a jinx here. Like bringing a banana in the boat. It's not the curse of the Mummy, it's the Curse of Super Bessie!

Benson's Curse.

What if your fishing in a 5mph zone and your robotic fish is throwing a wake? Will you need to have the kill switch attached when the big motor's running?

Killing me!!!

I just want you to know that my robo-fish platinum series will have a GPS unit tied to a governor to keep the lure under the speed limit at all times. The integrated navionics map has all no-wake zones marked throughout the world to ensure automatic slow-down in proper zones.

Rob I dont think that the fish has to be caught on video to get the record. I dont even theink the fish has to be killed. It just has to be documented well. The problem lyes afterwards. The poor bastard who catches it will be put under a microscope and evrything they ever did or said would be brought up. No matter how clean they are you will have a good amount of people questionong the angler and the catch. It will suck for the person who catches it. i also highly doubt there would be the millions of dollars the some think the angler would get. I actualy think the imediate rewards would not be worth the stress and headaches.
as far as all you what ifs, oh man it would suck to be you if you caught it like that!
I think even though there is not a specific law regaurding robotic lures the IGFA would probably disqualify it saying it was not caught in a sporting way.
Also with all your what ifs, even if they all individualy checked out OK I would guess because they are so many of them that would disqualify it. I believe they have a board that votes on the records so I think that would be just too much to allow the record. I still hope Kurita gets the record so its not so sacred and when the next Amercian breaks it he will be embraced and not crucified.

I just hope no one wants to inspect the innards of my robo-fish for quagga mussels.

I dont care how bad I would get raked, I would still take any opportunity I could to catch a world record bass. And if I was being honest, I wouldnt see any reason anybody could argue with my catch. I agree, there is some kind of weird curse going on with the WR LMB.

It's Benson's curse man. The only way to break it is to wipe tiger nuts and bananas on your lure.

I'm growing the world record in my private pond where it only feeds on one thing (and that's top secret) along with FGH (fish growth hormone). When the fish reaches the world record weight, I will catch it using the only food it has ever known (making it a sure thing). I will have the media there to witness the event along with all the proper authorities.

I will then star in a reality based fishing show, start my own lure company and then it will be down hill from there. I will eventually be banned from the fishing hall of fame, when it's discovered that my fish was on steroids. My fish mount will have a huge asterisck stamped on its side. I will become a side show at the Fred Hall show, where kids will throw swim baits at a bulls eye that when hit, sends me into a pool of piranha. I will then end up on another reality TV show where I compete in a celebrity fish off with Danny Bonaduce as my life hits rock bottom.

Not to fear though... I will make an appearance on celebrity rehab where I get my act together come back and win the BASS Master Classic, using nothing but string and paper clips.

Tanuki instead of tiger? No growth hormone required.

I learned in a Benson the carp article recently that Benson was named Benson because of a hole in his fin that looked like a cigarette burn. A-la Benson & Hedges.

Maybe the next big bass I catch, I'll name it Marlboro.

If I ever grow a world record bass in my private pond, I'll name it Macanudo and charge other people $500 for a chance to catch it. The legions of rednecks fighting for a chance at glory will make her famous, until the day she succumbs to a fatal cocktail of megastrike, tiger nuts and propofol.

Can I borrow some artificial growth hormones?
