Group,

Act 1 of the peripheral canal is the 2-Gates Project, dams/locks across Old River and Connection Slough planned for implementation IMMEDIAELY. THIS IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT FOR FISHING, BOATING, AND NAVIGATION IN THE DELTA!!!!!!!!!!!!! The attached article by Bill Jennins of the CA Sport Fishing Protection Alliance outlines the issue very succinctly.

http://www.calsport.org/7-29-09b.htm

Here is the Bureau of Reclamation website describing the 2-Gates Project.

www.usbr.gov/mp/2gates

Again, this is step 1 to destroy the Delta Ecosystem by increasing the exports of water out of the estuary, culminating in the construction of a peripheral canal. These steps have been branded as efforts to "restore, conserve, and protect" the ecosystem and fisheries. BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is nothing more than a way to prtotect the WATER EXPORTS that are killing the Delta.

Fishermen unite to protest the 2-Gates Project.

wow that is ridiculous...i have never fished the delta but from a geologic point of view i can tell you that dams are not good. they have a long term effect of preventing sediment from reaching the ocean as it would normally be carried there as a bedload in the river. when a dam is built, the ocean shores are no longer fed the sediment they need to remain in equilibrium.

furthermore, remember that water is a natural resource that all living things need in order to survive. this seems like another business maneuver for the water districts and state government to make more money from us. the only thing you have to do to sell water is to own it. everyone needs it and everyone buys it without any advertising, sales pitches or representatives.

this is probably just another one of their ways of selling out our nation's abundant resources while screwing us at the same time. indeed, we need to fight back.

i just had an interesting thought...maybe our government needs a fourth branch, an academic or scholarly branch that could be the brains of the operation because right now our government seems like a strong muscly body without any brain power...just a thought...
