After getting several questions about the rig and durablility of the new Generic Swimbait, I put together this presentation. I tried to set the new bait with our Pro-Rig set up, but I found it swims alot better with it's own harness. Unlike a stock Osprey harness, the Generic harness is placed into the mold before the bait is poured, it is angled, which keeps it from protruding out the nose, and the entire harness is coated in surgical tubing so there are no sharp edges to tear through the bait. Time will tell how truly durable this bait will be, but these modifications will help.

Step One: Use super glue to fill the gap between the harness eyelet and the inner body of the bait, to cement the harness in place at this point.

Step Two: Place a flat stainless steel washer over the belly eyelet(Super glue into place). This washer will make the eyelet more sturdy and keep the split ring(on the hooks)from tearing up the plastic belly.

Step Three: Cut off the belly fin of the bait to leave a clear area to anchor the eye of the stinger hook. You can cut an angled section out of this fin instead of cutting it off completely, the idea is to have a flat surface to mount the stinger.

Step Four: Attach the hook assembly(same set-up as the Pro-Rig Osprey)and anchor the rear treble with a u-shaped section of paper clip inserted into the body of the bait.

Step Five: Test run the bait. If it turns slightly to one side, take a nail insert weight(used for Sluggos) and shove it below the eyeball of the side that leans up on the retrieve. Only half a nail is usually needed(cut off and discard what you don't need), some baits will run true right out of the package.

The Generic Swimbait is going to be a great lure. It will not replace the Osprey , but is a good complimentary tool to it. I think the Generic will be a good choice when bass want a swimbait retrieved quickly, fished a little deeper, or on bodies of water where bass have seen alot of previous swimbaits. Bass always get stupid on the new stuff.

Looks good. Glad you guys figured out how to tweak that bait. There would've been some bummed out dudes when their $30 swimbait got trashed on the first fish...

Most excellent. This will save many questions from being asked. I'm definitely going to do up some of my baits like this.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, when you tie your stinger hook to the lead hook with braid, make sure you super glue the knots. Pull the two knots as hard as you can then dab some glue on the knots. Braid has a tendency to slide under pressure, and my partner lost a fish hooked on a stinger hook early in our Pro-Rig tests.

Chris, will you be rigging any of these baits in the shop or is it a do it yourselfer? I'd imagine you guys are too busy with the ospreys as it is.

Brian, I don't think we'll do many of these at the shop unless someone specifically asks me to do it. I have all the components to hook guys up to do it themselves.

Leif, both hooks are Gamakatsu. I won't use the hook the bait comes with, and am replacing it with a 1/0 lead hook and a #2 stinger hook.

Dane, that color is BWW Trout, and I have a few left here in stock. It's one of our favorite colors in the soft trouts.

Chris, I guess is it a little premature to ask for a second BWW located in South OC? ;) Your shop is the bomb, nice to have all that good stuff (kinda) close to home! Maybe if me, Cam, and Matt weren't the only bass fisherman south of Ortega Hwy(and north of SD) it would be more feasable. Oh well, it's worth the drive.
