#1987, "Goals for the new year"
Mon Dec-23-02 10:52 AM by swimbait

I have been thinking some about my goals for the new year lately, and have come to the conclusion that there is a whole lot of stuff I'd like to do next year :) But basically, I just want to fish for big bass as much as possible ...

So I've decided on two goals for next year that I really want to accomplish.

I want one bass over 15, and I want at least one sight fish over 10 pounds.

I had my shot at two fish over 15 this year, and I didn't land either of them, and I've never sight fished one over 10 despite losing two over 10 in one day sight fishing last year. So that's the mission. I'm looking forward to next year, and I have at least one more trip to go this year, so you never know :)

I'd like to hear what everyone else's goals are for next year.

-Rob

Man the list is long for me.

I want another Angler of the Year title in one of the circuits I am fishing this year.

Also, I want a 10+ out of San V on the swimbaits.

Would like to catch one around or over 15, but I am going to have to "luck" into it because I am not going to specifically target fish that size.

And to be greedy, I want to weigh a 30lb sack in a tourney at San V.

Oh yeah, will someone please put saome water in Hodges!!!!!!!

Four goals that will be hard to accomplish, but also very attainable. I think 2 out of the four would be nice!!

Hope you all achieve your goals for 2003.

Cam

Catch a bass over 10.

That's it. Don't care how, don't care where. It will be accomplished.

Me too, just give me one double digit- been oh so close, but close doesn't cut it- Also my goal is to win at least one of my club tournies this year, and finish the year in the top 10. Third goal is to land a tuna over two bills, I am getting my shot in January so I hope I can pull it off. Happy holidays and a great New Year to all!!

#1) Raise my PB bass to over 8#.
#2) Get a 5#+ bass on a jig.
#3) Get a Freshwater Striper over 20#. (Setting low sights here, PB is 27 for Fresh and 32 for Salt)
#4) Make over 150 fishing trips for the year. (I made 122 this year so far, if you count every trip where a cast was made, even if it was 3 in 1 day. ie Anderson, Coyote Creek gravel pits, and Calero)
#5) Catch a Halibut over 15# on artificials and lighter than 10# line.

Tight lines,

Of course it would be nice to get a brown over ten pounds but since I did not accomplish my goal this year of a brown over eight pounds would be cool. A few more days spent chasing browns would be nibe too. Good luck to you guys in accomplishing your goals.

My goal for this year is to catch a bass weighing at least 24lbs, become a millionaire, quit my job and spend the rest of my days fishing. Ok, maybe I should set my sights a little lower. If I could keep catching these northerns in the 7-8lb range, I will be very happy. A 10 out of my lakes is rare, but I actually think I can pull it off. So a 10 it is.

I think my immediate goals for 2003 are:
- a 10 on a jig
- a 10 from a lake besides coyote or san pablo

My longer range goals still are (in ascending difficulty):
- a 15+
- 10 over 10 in one year
- 50lb limit
- 5 10s in one day

I'd be more than happy with just the first two though.

Good luck everyone!

but realistically......

Geez, I rose the bar so high this year, that I will be hard pressed to even come close in 2003 !

I guess my goals would be have to be (least to most difficult):

3 double digit bass in one day.
15 lb'er on night crawlers, preferably on micro-light gear.
50 lb five fish limit.
30 bass over 10 lbs for the year. (good luck !)
Just one bass over 17 lbs, which wins the yearly BBRC :-)

Oh..... and I would like to catch the Clear Lk. record catfish (currently 33.25 lbs) by the end of January.... not neccessarily harder than a 17 plus bass.....

But I guess if I get to fish 3/4's as much as I did in 02, and catch half as many big fish, it will be an awesome year !

Great fishing to all of you guys,
Peace,
Fish Chris

I would love it to just be on the water more than I was this year. That being said, I want to catch a double-digit swimbait fish, win a team tournament with my wife, be at Diamond Valley on opening day, and get a top ten at one of the WON Bass Pro-Ams.

I really hope to spend more time on the water, even an hour more would be enough.Make more money so i can spend more on fishing!

I would like to catch a ten plus largemouth and a thirty plus striped bass, preferably from the same lake and on the same day but i'll take either on anyday.

Also to hold a lake or state record for either species at one time in my life, next year would be nice!!

Good luck to everyone...

Well I have a few goal for the upcoming year:

1. I would like to start my custom rod business.

2. I want one double digit bass from Lake Perris

3. I want a 20# Striper out of Silverwood.

4. From the Eastern Sierra I want to do the Sierra slam in one day, and catch at least a double digit brown on opening day.

I've got a few more, but those are the main four, with #1 being the biggest goal of the new year.

Tight Lines,
Jason Huckeba

Whew! 2003 Goals!

For me:

--A 10+ lber from Otay
--A 5 fish limit on swimbaits from San V
--A "teen" from anywhere
--some heavy rain to fill up Hodges, El Cap, Wholford, etc so the fish in San V get a break!!!

Several things I would like to see and do for 2003.
1. Catch a double digit on big wood.
2. Fish at least one more day with Rob
3. Have at least four full field tournaments
4. That everyone I know enjoys good health for the year
5. I get to put at least 20 hours on my boat

OK, I wanna play!

I wish...

1. to fish at least 80 days in 2003, 100 would be awesome.
2. to catch a 10+ fish.
3. to catch a twenty pound limit (it's been a while)
3. to catch a bass on a trout plug
4. to win at least one BnT tourney
5. Biggest tourney caught bass of the year
6. to win the BnT Open... sight fishing (gee, what am I gonna do?)
7. to catch a 15lb.+ steelhead
8. to catch my first albacore
9. to catch a striper from my kick
10. to catch a sturgeon from my kick
11. Learn a new technique - I've never caught a bass by c-rigging or with trout plugs or wacky rigged floating worms or fishing deeper than 25 feet.

Hmmm
$hit, I just wanna fish.
later

I want to continue to learn how to be a better overall bass fisherman. I want to fish some "new"
water (new to me), become a better jig fisherman, keep a better fishing log, add more "quality" to
my equipment and catch something other than fish under 3lbs for a change - in other words, I just
want to catch some bigger fish, period.

This was my first year of bass fishing and I still have so much more to learn.

Fished San V on thursday to try and find that present Santa left down there for me. Also tried to get ahead start on the 2003 goals. Well, I looked all over that lake for that present and finaly found 2 of them hidden in Barona. Both fish were around 5 lbs. Then as the day turned to the afternoon and the clouds slowly started to roll in, the swimbait bite kicked in. Right away I rallied a 6.85 on the Eagle and then the very next cast, bam, but it didnt hook. I saw the fish as it came up sideways on the bait. It looked around 5 lbs or so. We fished another hour and at about 4:30, right before they kicked us off, I had a 10+ jump all the way over my bait and miss it.

Oh so close!!!
As stated before, 2 of my goals are a 30lb sack amd a 10+ from San V on a swimbait.

I had 3 fish for around 16 lbs and 2 more close calls.

I guess thats what I get for trying to jump the gun:)
OH SO CLOSE!!!!

That's a heartbreaker seeing the big fish completely miss your bait but you get a good look at him.Probably one of those one eyed guys with bad depth perception. ;-)

Should be some more stormy weather moving in soon, keep at it!!

Ya know cam, that would've only fulfilled your 2002 goals. You'd have to come up with new goals for 2003 if you stuck those fish ;-) Sounds like a good trip. We're gonna go camp out at cachuma for a few days starting tomorrow.

I got two out of four- didn't get a 10 pounder, didn't win a club tourney (2 seconds, one third), but I doubled my goal of a 200 lb. tuna, got a 405 lb. bluefin and finished in the top 10 of my club- So what's everyone shooting for this year? I'm going to win at least one club tourney, and get less lazy and chase the 10 pounder harder. Hope to follow in Brian's footsteps and crush the 10 pound mark, that was a sick one you got this spring!

Hmmm...Let's see here.

1. Bass on a trout plug from Guasti Park Lake. ( If you know this lake you know this is quite a goal) Preferably double digit.
2. Get on the BH Skiff Trip.
3. 7 pound plus local calico on plastic or the Tady 45, realeased without harm.
4. Work on the boat more...if there is one this year.

Jake
