I took the afternoon half-day today. We had nice weather, a little cool. The boat fished rockfish in the AM so we tried for surface fishing in the afternoon, starting down at Horseshoe rock.
Things were pretty slow at first. Someone hooked a 50lb thresher on the bow but it raced under the boat and broke the line. Earlier in the week there was some pretty decent fishing for barracuda, bass, and white seabass locally.
We tried out at the 6-mile, then the 4-mile, then back to the Horseshoe. The ocean seemed a little off today, just one of those days. One barracuda was hooked but broke the line. I caught a sandbass and a calico on the 4" Big Hammer and a chucklehead on bait. The chucklehead wound up being the jackpot. The boat is going to Santa Rosa tomorrow.
