Dennis and I got to the lake at 5:30 in the morning to get shad because the lousy bum has been slaying the
bass and crappie lately and I was dying to get in on the action. We picked away at the scattered schools of
shad in the marina getting about 100. We started in Jackass canyon and saw fish boiling mid-water but didn't
hook up throwing hopkins spoons. Switching to the shad Dennis did some damage getting a nice crappie, a
catfish, a green ear sunfish, and 8 to 10 bass mostly 2-3 pounders. I got two or three bass and almost got a
trout, but the damm thing ate my split shot instead of the shad. If I had caught the trout we would have
caught almost every species in the lake! After a while we went to Salsipuedes bay and fished some trees.
Right away it was a crappie bonanza. We wound up pulling 20 or so really nice crappie averaging about a
pound and a half, all off one tree. That was fun. Working down the bank, Dennis worked his magic on the
bass nailing a 4-0 and a 4-7 bass along with some 2-3 pounders. By then we had used up most of the shad so
we headed in.
Round 2: Seth Larsen and I came back to the lake around 6:30 (Dennis' truck was STILL in the lot) to get in
on some topwater. We fished Murphy's bay and I got 3 on a spook and 2 on the AC minnow. Seth got one
on the popper. Not bad for an hour on the water. Big fish was on the minnow at around 3lb.
