8589, Afternoon at Puddingston!

I went to go see what's up at pudd. It was a nice suprise to find the lake full when I got there. Plenty of water for the spawn. The water was stained and it reminded me of how puddingstone looked in past years. I used to fish pudd a lot in all through the 80's in to the early 90's and the water was ussually the color it is now. I caught a lot of fish in those murky water conditions. Today however was tough. I only managed a 2 lber for two hours of fishing which was returned to the water immediately.

I did whitness an awsome event though. I watched a small school of what looked like 6 to 10lb bass ravage a school of trout. Trout where jumping out of the water with big bass right on there tail up in the air with them. I wound a big hammer trout swimbait right through the boils but they just weren't interested. I tried several presentations with no luck. Two bass boats were working the same school. With one of the guys was throwing wood the other looked like he had live crawdads but they couldn't raise any interest in these fish either. If anything they where awesome to watch. This stained water may actually be great for the bass in the sense that it makes it harder for anglers to spot nesting fish which would take the heat off a lot of bedding. Good luck see you on the water.

Thank's Jerry,
I am finally gettin out on the stone with one of the old lake locals, Jon Dog. Kept hearing such neg stuff about all the local ponds I felt overwhelmed. You're right about the water color. Pea soup. They stopped the drags and quit cutting the grass as much as in yrs past. I think this has contributed to the return of the off colored water which was the GOOD color back in the day of the reaction and crank fishing bites.

It's good to actually see a few hungry fish (not birds) on the trout. I'll be back tommorrow to post my findings. BURGIE
