577, Too far South?

Hi folks. I just got my first float tube, I needed to escape the crowds. It's awesome. I live in Orange county, and work on a cattle boat out of Dana Point and obviously fish around here. If any one wants reports from this area I'd be glad to post. I've been tubing Newport Harbor south of the Pavillion. I'll probably stick to the area until I feel ready for the boilers in Laguna(the real reason for the tube). I've fished the last three days in a row since my purchase and done O.K. I've averaged 4 bay bass ( all but one in the 1-2lb range), 3 sandies, and 1 short butt for the 3 days. It seems to be either dead or lots of action no middle ground. I know the back bay if considerably better, but it costs money to launch ($5 or $6 I think). Any ideas on free launch areas back there? If anyone's headed down this way and wants to fish let me know.
