Because we didn't get much luck on the bass yesterday at Los Alamitos, we went to Newport back bay. Total for my cousin is about 8-9 fish (half spotty and the rest halis and sandies). For me I had 11 fish (8 spotty, 1 short hali, 1 turbot, and 1 sandy). I had lots of nibbles and about the same amount of quick released (fish-on for about 2-3 seconds). Also one broke off and two plastic tail bitten off. All fish caught on plastic and CPR to fight another day.

Curious, how "back" was back, and were there many legals. I like launching at North Star beach and fishing way back there, but I've only found shorts.

You can't catch it again if it's dead!

That's where we launch out of too. Half of my spotties were legals, biggest being around 15-16 inches caught in the middle of the channel while going toward the launch ramp. Took us a while to get to the docks cause the tide was coming in pretty good. We had to get on the othere side to use the shoal to help us move out.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to go back there again. I remember fighting the tide in my tube all too well. But, it was trying to keep up with my fishing partner in his yak, that got me into my yak.

I'm guessing your skiff is on trailer. If it is then the only way to launch it is on a launch ramp, which there is one in the back bay off Jamboree. If it's not, I'd seen people launching kayaks at 15 st in Newport Beach.
