Does anyone know if this "new" cast control system is a typical knob/friction device that adjusts spool feed as you cast? Like a typical cast adjustment knob found on other conventional reels?
There isn't much on the Avet site about it. And the local tackle shop claimed the Accurate now has a cast control knob but the Avet didn't. I was just noticing tonight - the mention of this "new cast control system" on the Avet site. It seems like the same thing that's being offered by Accurate. Or at least providing the same function.

the cast control for my avets are either tossing it with the lever on the bait setting instead of the freespool setting or you have to mag them (which i have done to my JX)

I assume the magging has improved "birdnesting" considerably(?). I have casted alot with a Calcutta 400 - which has the cast control knob on the side. I feel very confident with it. Adjusting the Avet drag lever seems as if it would work the same way. But then again - the magging would appear to give you the maximum in distance. As it would require the least amount of resistance on the spool.
I read the mag how to on charkbait. Seems simple enough. To bad there isn't a factory option for it. It's so cheap. And sounds to work so flawlessly.

yeah, all you do is glue in the washers. the masgnets are so strong they attach themselves to the washers and dont come out unless you pry them off. its also adjustable this way. just glue on a few washers and if you are planning on flylining with your SX, just put one magnet in or if you are tossing a jig you can add an additional magnet.

That's a good question, cst. you can find numerous people on www.pierand surf.com fishing lever drags in the surf that are holding up better (Avet) than their friends with Abu's and Penns with star drags. Specifically saying that the Avet's kept fishing on windy sand swent days while the Penns and Abu's seized up or ground so much they had to stop and clean them out. They are also getting better distance with magged sx's. Some of the tournamnout distance casters have posted that they have never had a reel cast so far.
But I can't find the same thing for Accurates. Only because they are so expensive. You never see anyone posting about them. And certianly not about surf fishing or distance casting.
I'll probably get more distance out of a magged Avet than a cast controlled Accuarte. So I'll probably go that way. Plus for the same price as an Accurate I could get a 2 speed Avet or 2 single speed Avet reels. Hard to justify the extra money. And their marketing doesn't exactly - clearly point out why their product is that much better than the Avet or anyone else. There is the dual drag. But they avoid lbs of drag discussion anywhere in their marketing. So I assume it's less than the Avet's. Wish I could fit that ergonomic round handle from the Accurate to the Avet. Would make my elbow feel alot better. :)
