The stripers busted loose today around sunset near Mussel Rock. Lots of nice fish being caught there off the beach now. I got into the run this evening and despite some major setbacks (having to respool in the middle of the run, etc..) managed to stick 10 fish to about 20 pounds.

I'm thinking no more halibut for a while :)

Nico

(horrible) pic of one about 15 pounds

Nicolo-

Nice one. Damn sure looks like it deserves makin a trip for some like that. I live in Menlo Park and am itchin for striper action. Always wanted to head out to Pacifica but dont know much about that area from shore. What did you use, what time, and what tide is best? I'm not askin for all your secrets just a few :-)

What did I use?

I caught fish on chrome, white, and chartruese mickey mouse jigs and a chrome kastmaster that evening. All 4 oz. Those thick, heavy Krocs also work really well. Heavy hair raisers also work but don't cast as well (the longer you cast, the more hookups you get... kinda a linear relation). You can buy mickeys at Gus's (Balboa and about 38th in SF) or at Hi's (haven't beent there in a while). Don't use cheap split rings.

What time?

Sunrise, sunset, and after dark are best for "blindcasting". But they never hold to a schedule.

What tides?

Incoming through about an hour after high are best. But like above question, the stripers run when they're in the mood, not because of time or tides.

No fishing for me today, but I'll be out there again tomorrow evening.

Good luck,

Nico

Hey - that's some damn fine fishing there for ya!

I've hit that place a few times, but just couldn't manage one...
So you think Mussell Rock, Linda Mar, or Pacifica would be best for me to try this weekend?

Thanks,

Greetings,

Great picture of an awesome fish. Sorry for my ignorance, but could you tell me where Mussell Rock, Linda Mar, and Pacifica are located?

Are they in California or Mexico?

How do you get to these Places?

Thanks for your time.

Frits

To answer both questions...

This is near San Francisco.

I put a little map with the common names of beach places. I normally keep tabs on the area between Ft Funston and the Pier, and only check the outlying areas if nothing is going on. With a pair of binoculars you can sit at the parking lot at mussel rock and see any activity in the area I mentioned.

Fishing was slow today. Short run at RV around noon and after that just some birds now and then.
