While I am at Clear Lake this weekend my sister in law has been bugging me to help her hook up. I am thinking about a night walk down to the Marina at Konocti and throwing some liver's for some big cats. Anyone else have any suggestions for me to help her hook one of these giant wisker fish?

Captain Catfeesh recommends the following techniques

1oz crawdad rattle trap bounced off the bottom in 25' of water

7" senko flipped in the bushes

DD22 crankbait on the flats

MS Slammer on the surface at night
Staysee ripbait ripped by docks

These are top producers for the elusive catfeesh.

Captain catfeesh also says, "don't net the catfeesh, they slime the net"

Do you offer giud trips :)

One spring up at Clear lake I caught so many Cats on Jigs that I stoped fishing them so I could focus on bass.

As for cat fish bait I always use shrimp, it stays on the hook great, is not overly smelly, and produces.

Lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what have-yous

Just use a carolina-rig with bait on it. That way the cat won't feel the weight...

I caught about a 12-lber on a blade up at Clear Lake in a tourney. Thought I had the lake record largemouth for awhile!

I use raw shrimp so snacking is not recomended, unless you are into that kind of thing. :7

Like Gordon said I use a Carolina rig, I play around with the leader a bit but usally 10 to 18 inches, as for a hook I just use a #1 worm hook, as I do not like buying extra tackel just for kitties.

Lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what have-yous

Hey Johnny
My womans fathers name is Bob Zanolili and he has won the big catfish derby they have up there a few times, infact he won 1999 and 2000 if Im not mistaken. He swears by raw jumbo shrimp with no weight,or huge chucks of chicken liver. Big baits attract big fish , even while cat fishing. Good luck John and have fun.
