Fished Eldo today and had a got into some pretty good fish. Started out at the ranger station and blanked the whole half hour i was there. Moved over to where ive been catching all my fish lately and within the first cast i hooked into a solid fish that felt very heavy and on his second run popped the knot on my line. I was pretty pissed and i knew i shouldve retied my hook when i got there but oh well. But it didnt stop there. In two hours i hooked into 7 fish and five were over 3 pounds on my berkely digital scale, i also farmed two fish. I cant understand why people arent fishing this particular spot. With all the weed growth and stuff this area is just perfect. Everyone seems to be fishing just the Ranger side. I wont say where it is cuz its such a small lake and im sure somepeople have figured it out already especially some of the guys on the other side of the lake of saw me hooking into the fish. But i will say this though all of my fish were caught on 5 inch senkos in the watermelon w/ red and black flake rigged on a 4/0 EWG gammie. I was fishing em really slow and deadsticking them for as long as i could. I was also wondering if the fishing was so good today because of that partial lunar eclipse we had, i know moon phases play a big role in the bass bite.....hmmmmmmmmm just wondering. laters!!!!
Congrats on the good fishing. I'm an El Do regular and I haven't had near that kind of luck as of late. I usually fish the small lake, north of the big one because there's too much traffic at the big lake.
For the life of me, I can't get bit on a senko. I even throw the same color as you and I use a 3/0 hook - but the same brand and style as yours. I've fished every possible spot on both lakes (but again, I spend most of my time on the small lake). I've also yet to see anyone else catch fish of late when I'm there.
Sunday I caught one small fish on a shallow running crank bait and ran into a ranger who said some guy caught a 5lb 2 ounce fish on a spinner bait.
The big lake is really getting huge mats along the shore and the water is looking pretty disgusting these days. People are starting to catch bluegill at the big lake. The small lake's water is much more clear, but just as weedy.
