I'm using them...oh sorry...I designed 'em so I have a biased opinion. There are a few people that are / have used them. I'm sure they will chime in.

So am I in need of two of these? 1 heavy and 1 med-heavy? I do throw slammers as well as all the other major swimbaits. Sean

Ideally you would want the two different weight rods for the different size/weight of lures, often more than two. But if you want just one all around swimbait/ plug chuckin' rod I would go with the heavier action one myself. JMO

Sorry, I'm not talking specificly about the Okuma rods, just in general.

Sean,

We have two actions. One is for throwing "lighter" baits like the Osprey, Eagles, etc... That rod is the Heavy action. We also have an XH action for the "heavier" baits like the Stocker Trout, large sidewinders, Castaic swimbaits, etc... The heavy is rated 1 - 5 ounces and the XH is rated 2 - 8 ounces. Both rods have similar actions but the XH has more power therefore it is stiffer.

As far as a rod for Slammers, currently Okuma does not have a rod for those baits although I will be working on a lighter action for wood baits in the near future. Rob and Brian recommend the Rainshadow 967 which is a great rod for throwing Slammers. I have a similar action made by another blank manufacturer and it works well for me.

Listen to SWMB8R,

The Stocker Trout and Live Trout Softbait are on the extreme heavy end of the spectrum and the 9" MS Slammer is on the extreme light end. You're not going to find a rod that works well for both.

I've been using the XH version of the Okuma swimbait rod and it will be perfect for the heavy stuff... Stocker Trout, LT Softbait, etc as well as baits that you want a strong hookset like the larger mission fish.

The Rainshadow SW967 is a great rod for the Slammer.

Sean:

I have used these rods from the prototype stage. I have warmed up to the lighter rod (heavy) and find it exceptionally balanced. I fished 6 hours this morning and for 5 ½ hours I tossed the slammer. I would still be fishing but the ski boats ran me off. I started with the Lamaglass big bait stick and lost two fish. I switched to the Okuma heavy only because I had braid on it and wanted a stronger hook set. Not to be contrary to Mark (SWMB8ER) and Nico, and I am sure they are guiding you in the right direction, however I took four slammer fish with the Okuma this morning and for my style it worked just fine. I will mention I fished with Mark two weeks ago (one great fisherman), and he had a light action stick he took 9 or 10 slammer fish on and I do not remember him loosing a fish.

Hope I didn’t muddy up the water to bad. I will be back on the water tomorrow and will start off with the slammer/Okuma combo unless Mark wants to loan me his limber stick.

Henry

I just received my GS-C-761H from the first photo contest,I have to say I'm really impressed with the overall design and feel of the rod. Anyone who had any part in the design and construction of these new rods did an awesome job!

Can't wait to break it in with a phatty and see this baby bend.
