Patrick,
Go ahead and do that:-)
I guarrantee that you will VOMIT after it cures for a while. I have, in the past, used ground up trout and smeared my swimbaits in it. Unless you want to make a batch for each day you go fishing, don't plan on saving it. I ground up trout in an old blender and then set it out in the sun to let the oil separate from the ground up flesh. I then took the oils and mixed it with liquified petrolium jelly along with some other goodies (Amino Acids, etc...). I didn't smell too bad the next day when I used it. The reason I used petrolium jelly is that it when it hardened, it was like HOT SAUCE and would stay on the bait really well.
Well, the second time that I used it, I tried to squirt some on my Stocker Trout and it was pugged. The plug let loose and got some on my $80 fleece jacket and the carpet in the boat. I litterally gagged the entire day (I had to put my fleece in a compartment because of the stench). After washing the jacket three times, I decided to throw it away. The carpet finally stopped stinking after about a month or so.
Just a little warning but go ahead and try it. The thought it good.
Bait butter does have ground up trout although it has a lot of other addatives.
Just accept that you are going to have followers that aren;t going to bite but let me know how you like the stench if you decid to try it :9

Lots of California lakes are privately owned. They do not fall under the same DFG rules. It's o.k. for pro-cure to sale it because that's all they are doing, is selling it. It's up to the angler to abide by the posted laws at the particular body of water he or she is fishing at.
