Try using Priority Mail. Make the tubes as short as you can to avoid the surcharge(How much? Depends on how far its going).

I just shipped a 7ft rod from Ca. to Colorado and it costs $17.75 compared to UPS wanted around $27-28 dollars for 3-day select/ground.
