#10768, "Live Bait"

My brother who lives in Culver City is a less than part-time fisherman. He told me a while back that using live bait (shiners or minnows) are outlawed in most Southern Cal. lakes. Was wondering whether this was true or not. Also, are there any shad in the lakes there? If so, is catching them with a cast net legal? One more question. I hear a lot of fishermen using mackeral and night crawlers as bait for catfish. Are dip baits and other types of commercial bait used out there very much?

Drop it deep and yank it hard!!!
