#11020, "South Lake Tahoe Area Fly Fishing Advice/Tips"
Hi,
I'm new to the group and rather new to fly fishing. I've probably been out fly fishing 10 or 12 times.
I live in San Diego and will be up at my timeshare in South Lake Tahoe October 15th thru the 19th. My wife's staying home and this will be strictly a fishing trip for me.
As I said, I'm pretty new to fly fishing and have never been to the Tahoe area in October. I was hoping I could get some help or advice on where to go and what to use for this area and time of year.
We have lakes in the San Diego area, so I'm especially interested in fishing rivers, streams, and creeks (which we don't have).
The only places I've fished in the area are Kirman Lake, Spooner Lake, East Carson (within 100 yards of Hangman's Bridge), and where 89 crosses the West Carson. I've only fished these places in early June.
I have no problem with driving an hour to an hour and a half to get to some good areas. And I do have a 4wd.
I know I should probably hire a guide. But when I have in the past (2 times), I've never even seen a fish, let alone caught one. I think I can manage that on my own and for a lot cheaper.
Lastly, since I'll be coming up the 395, any recommendations on places to stop in the Mammoth area and wet a line while on the way up and back home would be great too.
Thanks in advance for any help you'd care to pass along.
