Got to Santee lakes around 8am. Plunked down $16 and picked out a likely spot. Claimed my turf with a chair and a sandspike and my truck playing JackFM. MY SPOT!! Fed the ducks real good and went for a short walk to see I could spot some carp. I spotted bass and bluegill and catfish but no carp. I checked lake 1 and lake 3, still no carp. At this point I was rather discouraged. My duck food didn’t look like it did much either. I was already ready to leave. I wanted to sight fish big carp, not soak bait in a muddy pond. Anywho…… I figured I was already there, so I might as well cast out and eat my Lunchables and pound a cold soda. Then I saw a small carp. Hmmm, good sign. I casted out some Del Monte under a bobber. Whoa! The bobber moved. Then it moved again. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_0840.jpg Within 5 minutes I had a nice carp(about 5-6lbs). It’s been a looooooong time since I caught a nice fish on 6lb test. Pretty damn exciting. Every fish I caught powered deep into the weeds and ripped a path of busted weeds behind with my poor line. I’m surprised I caught anything.
I set up my other rod with a tiny swivel and a small glass bead as an egg weight and cast out a chunk of bread. 10 minutes later I hear the reel screaming….. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_0841.jpg This big ol catfish ate the bread. He was around 7lbs, I named him Baba O’Riley and let him go. Soon after that I caught another cat around 4lbs on bread. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_0842.jpg Followed by a 3lber(no pic). The cats were kinda fun, but I still wanted carp. Besides it was getting hot quick. I pulled the rods and whacked 5 bluegill for good measure before leaving. I was there less than 2 hours.
It was nice to do something different. Went home early and did a bunch of work, now I can go fishing tomorrow morning. Woot Woot!!
OI!
