#16868, "Fizz?"

I recently had 5 nice spots on a stringer to eat for breakfast. We caught a few more not quite as big. I was going let the bigger two go and keep two smaller ones but the two bigger ones were full of air and I doubt that they would have survived so we kept them. I now have the tool needed to pop 'em. I have released hundreds of fish from 30'-40' and scence they swam away I assumed that they were fine. How do I know when I need to fizz a fish? Do I only fizz them if they are out of the water for more than a couple seconds? I don't want to go poking holes in every fish I catch below 30'. How hard is it to do correctly? looking at the needle it looks like you could do some serious damage. What is the best way to do it? I have seen differnt diagrams one showing in the mouth, and another showing on the side below the lateral line, in a line between the anal opening and the notch in the dorsal fin. This is all new to me. I have never even seen it done. Please help.
