#3859, "Eastern Sierra Trout Madness"

Fished opening weekend of trout season in the Sierras this weekend. We trolled Crowley for about 4 hours Saturday morning and out of 5 guys boated 50 fish. I caught 14 and released them all. They were all 1.5 pound clones except for one cutthroat. No browns at all. Most were caught on small silver rapalas and a few on the brown trout pattern. Some were also caught on white needel fish with stripes and spots. Saturday afetrnoon we fly fished HotCreek and I brought eight to the net all on nymph patterns. I use a 2 fly set up with a beadhead pheasent tail in about an 18 and a olive WD-40 trailer in a 20 or 22. Sunday fished the Ownes river for about an hour with no strikes and went back to Hotcreek and scored 17 more all on the same setup. My last fish was about a 15 inch rainbow that was so colorful it almost was purple.
