#1587, "July 10, Cachuma Lake"

Ball Zach, and Brian #2 and I fished Cachuma today. I had to take off at 3:30 to go to work (I'm starting to dislike this whole work thing...) but we got up there by 6. Brian busted out the brand new Megabass Pop-X in baby bass which, BTW looks absolutely incredible. Probably one of the most lifelike, baby bass imitating poppers available. Anyway, he spanked em in the morning. I think he had 4 or 5 legal fish on topwater by 9AM. I threw a ripbait and pulled a couple fish. At 9 we went and had breakfast, and then we ran on down to the narrows. A place Brian rarely fishes. Deep into the heart of the narrows, in Horse Canyon, we came across some brush piles. I decided to pitch a jig in there and pitched a brown/purple arkie jig with a super pork right into the middle of it, and to my surprise actually got bit. My line jetted out of the bush and by the time I set the hook, it was clear out of the bush. Got a nice 4+#er to the boat. Sweet, jig fish. As we worked our way around that area, we came across some frog mats in the back of a cove being fed by a stream. It was all shady back there and pefect for a big ole bass. Brian threw the tourney frog on top of it and pulled one out of there, so that was sweet too. A jig fish and a frog fish within 15min. of eachother, at Cachuma. Pretty sweet. After that it was a pretty slow pick until I went home. I ended up with 4 fish, for a total of about 9lbs. Brian had 7 legals with his best 5 going about 9lbs. also. We all had a few shorts mixed in there too. We fished rattle traps, topwater and flipped.
