#268, "carneros"

i've been able to make it to the lake yesterday and today. yesterday i got a 3 pounder and had the hook fall out of a small fish. i was throwing a 4" weightless electric green/pumpkin powercraw and just kind of twitching it over the top of all the moss and through the brush and stuff. fishing it kind of like a tourney frog. so, today i decided to try out that technique again, and it worked pretty well. right off i had a smaller fish, about 14 inches, come up and slurp it just like a trout. next, i decided to keep the reel in freespool and let the lure sink down in this little hole in the moss. i casted to the hole, and as soon as it hit the water, a nice 2 1/2 sucked it in. i could barely get the reel in gear to set the hook. after that, i pulled a 12 incher out of some thick cover in this little cove in the tullies. however, it costed me like 3 powercraws/gammie hooks because i got hung up so much. so, i said screw that, and even though some guy told me good things about that area, it wasn't worth it. a bit later i got another smaller fish about 14 inches, this one i got on the bottom with the same weightless powercraw set up. this fish came off the edge of some brush. i also caught two bull frogs which were a pain in the ass. just about every cast in this one area, bull frogs would come over and try to eat my lure. so, i believe i've found a technique that might work at that lake for a little while. at dusk it reminded me of that clear lake bass-n-tubes last year (rob- you know what i mean) with all the tiny little baitfish being chased around by bass. you could see em jump out of the water when a bass came near. 2/3 bass that i saw chasing those little baitfish around, i got on the powercraw. i also missed one fish who bit the claw off the lure. ok, tomorrow, i'll try to get out again.
