#330, "6/16-17 Santa Margarita"

My counterpart, Brian Kettler needed a partner to prefish with at Santa Margarita for a club tournament on Saturday so we went up and camped out for a couple days. Went up on Thursday night and got on the water on Friday morning. We threw trout plugs, senkos, cranks, frogs, everything. What did we get? Nothing. So, prefish was sucking. We met Rob at like 1. In the evening all we got were some baby bass and bluegill on poppers. WOO HOO. So, with that Brian had to fish a tournament the next day. Well, he actually did decent in the tournament. He got a limit of about 9 pounds I think. He'll have to correct me if I'm wrong. And he placed 9th out of a field of 18. His fish came on baby senkos and trout plugs. As for myself, I fished with Rob on his boat while Brian was fishing the tournament. I missed two fish on the buzzbait in the morning, and I'm not trying to brag or anything but I really should have been getting bit more than I was. I was throwing that buzzer in all the right spots and just not getting fish. Rob had one of Mike Shaw's prototype 12 inch slammers with the trout tail. That's right, I said 12 inch. This thing was massive. Well, with that plug Rob got fish after fish. They wouldn't bite anything under 12 inches (at least before 12 while we were out there, I understand it turned on after we left). Later on we resorted to drop-shotting. Rob got a couple fish, I missed a couple on senkos. That was about it. Rob got a limit for about 10, 10 1/2 pounds.
