#678, "December 27, 2000 Delta"

Ryan and I took my little boat up to disco bay today. First time in my boat in the delta so we launched in disco and stayed inside the 5mph zone. Before I even had the truck parked Ryan hooked up a 13incher on a rattle trap. We headed out into Harbor bay and Ryan catches two more the same size on his first 5 casts or so. Wow, things were looking good. Well after that it slowed down. There was some fog early but not bad and we fished around hoping for stripers or largemouth mostly throwing rattle traps, hair raisers, and swimbaits. The rest of the morning was suprisingly slow. No stripers boiling or bait jumping. Around 11am we went to some other bays and flipped for bass in the dead weeds. I flipped a nice 4-4 on a black/red reaper. We did that a while longer before heading all the way to the mouth of disco. There I cranked a 13incher on the bomber 7A but still no stripers. By this time we were determined to get a striper so back to harbor bay we went. We tried everything to get a striper. We trolled and spooned and threw traps and swimbaits. There was some shad around the docks but very little in the open water. Finally around 3:30 the birds started working over a small area. We moved over there as fast as we could but another boat was on it first. They got a striper that looked to be about 8 lbs and a second later all the fish and birds were gone. We stuck it out until 5 hoping they would show again but they never did. Overall a fun day, although it would have been nice to get at least one striper.

Here's a pic of the 4lber.
