Wow Calaveras - there's a name from the old days. I graduated from Vista High School in 1969 and was lucky to fish Calaveras a few times back then. I had great luck tossing crank baits at night from shore catching nice chunky bass. Back then Calaveras was a wild place out in the middle of nowhere at the end of a fairly long dirt road. It had the feeling that we were sneaking in and probably didn't belong back there. I always waited for the sheriffs to come by and chase us out but it never happened. I haven't been back in at least 20 years - it's probably a bit different by now. Perhaps surrounded by houses.
