#11169, "Qeen Mary float tube report / Long Beach 11-20-03"
This was a very bitter sweet trip to the F-ing city of F-ing Long Beach! You got to hear the conclusion to this story. My neighbor and I took two vehicles again. We parked one at the Reef restaurant and the other at Pier-J. We fished the outgoing tide from the Reef and were going to drive back when we got out at Pier-J.
The fishing started out good with a few nice 1 - 2 pound yellow fin croaker in the first 10 minutes. We kicked towards the bow of the Queen Mary and landed some small sand bass. We had a steady pick of 1# sandies and calicos all along the rock wall using grubs and small swim baits. As we got closer to the back corner near the stern, the fish were a little larger. My biggest was about a 2.5# spotted bay bass caught on 8#test with a dark purple twin tail grub. Things remained consistent on the backside near the old spruce goose dome, but all the fish were small averaging between 7 - 10 inches with an occasional legal.
The final score was... Me: 35-40 fish My Neighbor Roy: about 15 fish F-ing Long Beach F-ing citizens: 1 Dodge 2000 Ram 4x4 pick-up !!!
That’s right... when we got out at Pier-J, we sadly discovered after a good night of fishing some jerk-off stole my neighbor's truck. Man that pisses me off! The only good new is we had all of the fishing gear and the cell phones. I'm sure we can kiss all the other stuff goodbye. Long Beach PD confirned that it was not impounded, therefore it was stolen. So needless to say, we had a long walk back carrying all the tubes and gear back to my truck at the Reef restaurant. So it was a bitter sweet trip. More bitter then sweet for my neighbor.
Tight Lines, Terry G.
P.S. No offense intended to all the good citizens of Long Beach.
