Fished at the coronado ferry landing today with basskid254. Got there at about 10:30 with 2 boxes of squid. I was drop shotting a 3.5 inch sluggo with a 4 inch fish trap on a 1/2 oz. head as weight. We saw some bonito chasing bait on top (bonito actually coming out of the water) so I headed over there and made a few casts. Once I was sure I wasn't going to get any bonito, I made a cast, let it sink to the bottom, and as soon as I started reeling in my rod loaded up. I set the hook and landed this with the sluggo hanging out of its mouth. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0432.jpg 20" x( Anthony's first cast in the same spot yielded him another halibut about 15 inches also on a drop shotted sluggo: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0433.jpg Back to back casts, back to back hallies.
I walked over to BK and got some food for us, and when I came back I had a stingray on my pole. I reset that pull and busted out the d-shot on 4 pound line and hook up with this: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0434.jpg 6 inch halibut :+
Few casts later, hook up again and land: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0435.jpg 12 inch hallie
I rigged up my small baitcaster with a carolina rig and started fishing squid. Right away I caught 3 stingray. Decided to try strips of squid instead of chinks, and was soon battling with this fat spottie: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0436.jpg 14 inches long, 10 inch girth
We decided to go try some shore spots, and found a nice looking spot where it was pretty much wide open bass for about an hour.
Anthony was first to hook up and landed this spottie: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0437.jpg
We kept getting small 5-7 inch sandbass, but only photoed these which were less common, but a lot bigger: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0439.jpg
Then, to finish the day, Anthony caught one final hali around 14 inches: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0440.jpg
Totals:
Me: 3 halbut, 2 spotties, 5 sandies, and a lizardfish
Anthony: 2 halbut, 1 lizard, and about 4 or 5 bass (not sure how many of which he got) <---Toad Santee Lakes Bass
