#14263, "Purple haze"

Snuck on down to SD bay for the Thursday AM sesh. Met Gladys at the ramp and launched at 4:30. Planned on fishing Zuniga in the dark, but had a big time case of the post frontal nudity blues. Darkness, big waves, and ripping tide made it very difficult to fish. Plus there’s that whole fishing after the rain thing. Threw Jetty Worms on the jetty(as best we could) for the first couple hours and came up empty handed. Around slack tide we switched to Spinbombs and caught sportmodel calico bass.

It’s been 7 hours and fifteen days.

Eventually the tide started rolling again and the acid wore off so we switched to halibut fishing. Only had one follower on the spinnerbait, then the Navy guys intimidated us off of N. Island. We had attempted to go around the the corner and fish kelp a couple times but the waves just seemed a little to big today to make it worth while. Plus we had to be off the water at 1:00. At this point we were running low on desirable options, so I took Gladys over to the buoys behind the baitbarges. We worked each of them one at a time. On the last one I buttered up the good old red/black TJW and tossed it out. I let the current drag it over to the the structure base, then I just kinda jigged it and lifted it in the current. Then it felt fishy so I swung. The jig popped right out of the fishes mouth but, as I was letting it fall back down he hammered it again. That my friends is why you use scent on Jetty Worms, I highly recommend Unibutter.

It took a lot of casting but I eventually got hit again on a Spinbomb and finished the day off with another nice sandy.

Not quite the epic kelp trip that we wanted but, considering we were fishing the back side off a storm, and considering it was THURSDAY, I’m not complaining at all. Gladys is on the witness protection program and wishes to remain anonymous. You go Gladys

Clock in!
