#14296, "Late Surf Fishing Report For Saturday 4/14"
Hey Guys sorry for the late report!
Anyways, pulled a all day surf fishing session from the mainland after mother nature kept us from hitting those big perch at Santa Cruz island. I started out at Summerland figuring the surf would be smaller up there which it was, maybe 1-2ft but pretty weedy. I worked that beach from 7:30 till about 11:30 for 11 perch to maybe 1/2lb and a 15in beanie. It was good on the incoming but was dead after that. 11:45 I hit Santa Claus lane, but it was way to weedy there. Next was the west end of La Conchita, still weedy but fishable, worked that over for about 20min without a bite and right about the time I was about to leave I found some good troughs and started to pick at them pretty good, the more the tide went out the better the bite got! Fished there till about 3:00 for 18 more perch to maybe 3/4lb and a nice yellowfin… Everything including the corbina was caught on good old fashioned m.o.r.f Big Hammer perch grubs with calico cocktail on them….Captain Larry
For now I will have to continue obsessing about those island perch, but rest assured I will hit them again as soon as weather/ time permits!
