The rod I use with my Calcutta 400 is the Shimano Calcutta 715XFA. For a bit more backbone go with the 815XFA. I like the trigger handle, cork grip and light weight of these rods. Another thing I like about the shimanos as opposed to the G-loomis is the fact that the blank has a gloss finish while the loomis does not. Kinda like a surfboard that has a gloss coat compared to one that doesn't. They are basically the same rod with this one exception.
FYI, Shimano bought G-loomis about a year or so ago.
