Try the Owner Mosquito hooks too, which have kind of a semi-circle to them. (I hate the mutu lites because of the offset. I had the same problem of always palate hooking calicos.) I haven't used the mosquitos for surf, but last week used the #4 hooks extensively at Lake Powell for catfish and 10lb surface boiling carp (whoo-hoo!). Had 4 young kids fishing with bait. Not one ever set the hook, just reeled tight. Must of had 30-40 fish hooked in the corner of the mouth EVERY time. Expensive hooks, though.
