So it was finally time to get some tuna blood on the new boat, and appeared that the weather was finally going to cooperate for a central coast tuna run, and I had the right crew for it, my buddies Matt Russell and John Yokoyama. We decided to do our usual run out of Avila due to the fact Ive never been out of Morro and, Im not one to leave out of a strange harbor in the dark and peasoup fog! Anyways got the premo bait from Deke,(big purple chovies and a few awesome dines) and headed out to a temp break I seen on the terafin just east of the PSL bouy, we worked that area for a hour so in the slop till I couldn’t take it anymore,(radio fish were driving me nuts) I told my crew to hang on were gonna run and join the fleet off Morro 21 miles the other way right into the slop(thanks for the numbers ED!) We made it in about an hour (love the new boat!) and within 10min we got a single on the plain cedar plug and two bait fish, a half hour later we got another on the cedar plug, and hour after that one more the cedar plug. Around 12:30 it went dead so started trolling back towards the bouy, at about 1:30-2:00 the fish seemed to go off again in the ara we were in earlier, but we were too far away at that point. Even tho we only got five fish (14-22lbs) we were stocked to get the first tuna trip of the year under our belts and get used to the setup of the new boat! Numbers were were 22 and 13, but anywhere in that general vacinity was getting bit…..Larry
