I just returned from two days of surf fishing on Morro Strand Beach and the Rock area. Trying the carolina rig with motor oil grubs as recommended by several, we slammed the pearch from the first cast for two solid hours before the bite slowed on 02/15. We started about an hour prior to the morning high tide. All in all, I would estimate about thirty or so, between the two of us, within the first two hours. We cut it short when my partners waders sprung a leak and his boot filled up with H2O. Being old and cold it was time to call it quits before hypothermia set in (wimp). The fish Averaged 9" with a few in the higher ranges. All were released. We returned on 02/16 on the same tide and the bite was much tougher. We only managed 6 fish in four hours of fishing. I shoulda stayed in the motor home and watched the Daytona 500. The winds was up and the sun out and the surf was nasty. Major change in conditions.
