With all the yellows going off at Catalina my buddy and I decided to go. We jumped on the Premier out of Pierpoint. What a nice boat. Its super big and wide. We left at 6 with live squid already on board. After fishing some of the spots that had been producing no yellows had been boated so the captain made the decision to run around the back. This was a different spot of fish and had been bigger than the ones they had been catching earlier this week. I thought uh oh. I only had brought one 30 pound outfit. ( I was expecting to target the little 5- 10 pound firecrackers). I was fishing with my 20 pound outfit while my friend Adam had my 30. The captain ended up loaning a 30 pound outfit so I wouldnt get rocked. We started fishing and every while we would hang some. These fish were big, mean and knew exactly where the rocks and kelp were. I ended up hooking and landing one yellow that weighed 21 pounds on my digital scale. The boat ended up with 33 yellows, with 20 over 20 pounds and Jackpot went to a hog that weighed in at 27 1/2 pounds on my scale. They were hitting 30 and 40 pound test no problem. Most people were fishing 25 or 30 and we still had high casulties. The captain and crew really worked hard to make sure we had a chance on every fish hooked.
