#11137, "S.D. Bay report, 11-15-03"

Launched at Shelter Island around 6:30am, back in by 11:30.

End Result: 8 legals (all spotties, to about 2#), 9 or 10 shorts (one of them a sandie), plus one very small Lizard Fish from about 8' of water.

Where's and How's: Spent almost the whole time in relatively shallow, eel grassy water. Like 2-15'. All but one of the legals and most of the shorts came on 3/8oz. white blades. Trailer color seemed irrelevant, though I seemed to do best on a pearly white, clearish color w/red,green, black and hologram flake. Method for the day was a very slow roll, right threw the grass.

When I was throwing plastics, it was mostly smallish dropshotted baits. Best Color seemed to be green/silver pearl w/ blue and hologram flake. Only one legal though, mostly shorts. Tossed some zippershads in the same color and in watermelon red flake. All the baits were hit and mangled, but I could never seem to stick anything.

Conditions and Misc: Nice and mild air temp, with light wind off and on until the normal 10am Shelter blow. Water temp was also mild at around 62ยบ or so. Hardest part of the whole day was the over all lack of current. It was there, but you had to know where to look for it. Thus my focus on the shallow water shelves.

Met a nice fellow yak fisher out on the Bahia shoal. Talked Yaks for a while before he headed in. He was in the new O.K. Mars. Good looking boat for smaller guys.

Overall a fun day. It's only taken 3.5 months for the spinnerbait to go from my least favorite bait to a confidence bait. Now I need to do the same for dropshotting. Any tips?
