It really depends on the size of the yellows and what they are eating. If they are willing to eat the heavy line then that's what I would prefer to throw at them but that's not always the case. So here's the break down.

(YoYo Jig, suface iron, live mackeral/sardines or squid)
Calstar (optional seeker) 670 or 610 with a Penn 4/0 Narrow AKA yellowtail special with 40lb Andy line.

(surface iron, live mac/sardine/squid)
calstar grafighters (6480 or even a 6480L good alternatives) 800M with a Newell 332 (P-Series prefered but not a must also Penn 500 a good alternative),with 25- 30lb (Andy) line.

(Macs, Squid, Sardines, anchovies)
Calstar 800L (270/8H a very good alternative) with a Newell 229 or 300(P-Series prefered but not a must also Penn 501 good alternative),with 20lb Andy line. This would be the rod to use when the yellows are line shy and when the fish are shy a floralcarbon leader might be what it takes to put one on the hook.

If I had my choice I would choose the 40lb set up because I would always go with the heaviest line the yellows will are willing to eat however, for local fishing the middle is probably going to be more practical because it can be used for a wider range of local fishing where as the first set up is one that you would use more for fishing offshore or when the yellows break wide localy and they're eating the heavier string. Good luck.
